Life in CBS Homes

Life in the residential homes for adults with intellectual disabilities is engaging and suited to the needs of each person. Like any family, they enjoy meals together and some residents help cook in the kitchen. Others may leave the home to work or attend a day program. For people who have more complex needs, an in-home group day habilitation program provides skill development and community service activities.

After a productive day, people return home to have dinner and socialize.

On afternoons, evenings and weekends people engage in fulfilling activities of their choosing. There is a focus on experiential activities that may take place in the home or in the community. Our residents enjoy pet therapy, music appreciation, multi-arts classes, a Friday night dance or even horseback riding. Some homes have a weekly movie night or a bingo night.

Several dances are planned each year that bring people from all the residences together for fun and socialization.  Those who are athletes train for and compete in the Special Olympics.

As full as life in the residences is, it is healthy to have time away. Staff help the people they support plan yearly vacations. For example, a staff member has traveled to Disney World with a resident to help her fulfill her lifelong dream. In addition, residents have vacationed at Rocking Horse Ranch.
