About NDEAM
National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) is observed in October every year in the United States. This significant month serves as a time to recognize and celebrate the contributions of individuals with disabilities in the workforce and promote inclusive employment practices.
NDEAM has a rich history dating back to 1945 when it was established as a week-long observance. Over time, it evolved into a month-long celebration. The observance aims to raise awareness about the challenges individuals with disabilities face in finding meaningful employment while highlighting the countless talents and skills they bring to the workplace.
Highlighting Supported Employment in Honor of NDEAM
CBS believes that everyone deserves to have meaningful employment and the opportunity to bring their unique skillsets to their job. Our job services team works hard every day of the year to help people develop the skills necessary to find and land a job. Through CBS’s Supported Employment for people with disabilities program (SEMP), adults with disabilities can land a paid job of their interest and work alongside an on-site job coach provided by CBS for support. If and when they’d like to transition into an entirely independent job, CBS and job coaches like Kultumi Davies are eager to identify employment opportunities that compliment the unique skillsets of the person.
Enjoy our visual story on our Peekskill SEMP program. The grounds of FDR State Park and the Peekskill Day Camp shine as brightly as the top of the Chrysler building thanks to their dedicated clean-up efforts.
