Step into Vista Lab and you’re greeted by a vibrant display of colorful plastic molded pieces—a cheerful welcome that hints at the creativity and precision within. But it’s behind the scenes, on the immaculate production floor surrounded by towering machinery and humming equipment, where the real magic happens. And lately, that magic has a new source: the dedicated workers in the CBS community-based prevocational program.
In honor of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we’re spotlighting the incredible impact these individuals are making at Vista Lab. Several times a week, a team of workers and their coach, Rosemarie Byrne, arrive ready to contribute. Their task? Packaging disposable pipettes—one of Vista Lab’s most in-demand products, used by labs across the healthcare, biotech, and pharmaceutical industries.
“They bring such a positive energy to our workplace. And when they sit down to work, they are very focused on getting the job done and provide a much needed boost to our production team!”
In just one month, the team has packed 300 cases of pipettes. That’s not just a number—it’s a testament to their reliability, precision, and value. In a time when staffing challenges are common, Vista Lab’s business model is strengthened by hiring people with disabilities. It’s a win-win that brings purpose to the workplace and progress to the production line.
“I like to think I am good at this work. ” It’s a small, tight-knit company. Everyone here sends out a really good vibe. I hope this is what I end up doing. I feel I am heading in the right direction.”
Damon, another member of the team, is a fast learner and a quick worker, efficiently filling trays with pipettes. Together, their goal is to fill the shipping palette by the end of the month—a tangible milestone that reflects their growing confidence and contribution.
This is just Phase I. Jon already envisions a future where, with training and experience, these workers will have the opportunity to move into Phase II: working in the clean rooms. Phase III could involve assembling electronic components. It’s a roadmap of growth, opportunity, and inclusion.
At its core, employment is more than a paycheck. It’s dignity. It’s purpose. It’s a future. And at Vista Lab, that future is being built one pipette, one person, and one life-changing partnership at a time.
