Cultivating Dreams Farm Update: Embracing the Summer Harvest
Lucy Landzberg
As we step into the height of summer, the Cultivating Dreams Farm is buzzing with activity and vibrant colors. This week, we’re excited to share the latest from our gardens and greenhouses, where Day Hab participants have been actively involved in nurturing and harvesting a variety of fresh produce.
Our gardens and greenhouses are flourishing, offering a bountiful harvest of tomatoes, cucumbers, garlic, lettuce, various beans, squash, and herbs!
Adults with Disabilities Experience Hands-On Farming
CBS friends with disabilities are at the heart of the farm’s success. They engage in a range of activities, from planting seeds to harvesting ripe vegetables. In the farmhouse kitchen, they enjoy cooking with the fresh produce they’ve helped cultivate, experimenting with new recipes and flavors.
Working in the greenhouses and gardens provides an opportunity for participants to connect with nature, learn new skills, and take pride in their contributions. It’s inspiring to see their excitement and dedication during each harvest.
According to Farmer Olimpia, they will be diving into culinary activities next week with the upcoming harvest of cucumbers, peppers, and eggplants. Meanwhile, participants and staff are enjoying tomatoes for lunch and taking them home in small bags. WOW participants have also been creating flower arrangements to bring home.
Farmer Olimpia’s Note: A Glimpse of Nature’s Magic
“We spotted a beautiful butterfly in the cutting garden, a transformation from a caterpillar we noticed munching on dill leaves weeks ago. These small wonders remind us of the magic that unfolds on the farm every day.”
