Expression and Joy Through Theater: Krista Libertino’s Impact at the Hudson Valley InterArts Center
Lucy Landzberg
At the Hudson Valley InterArts Center, creativity knows no bounds. Under the passionate guidance of Krista Libertino, a dedicated music and theater instructor, this vibrant community hub has become a beacon of artistic expression for individuals of all abilities. In just a year, Krista has made a significant impact, fostering an inclusive environment where everyone is encouraged to explore their creativity through theater and music.
Krista’s journey in music and theater began early in her life, and her enthusiasm for these arts is infectious. “Every single day, I get to do what I love,” she shares, highlighting the joy she finds in teaching and inspiring others. Her classes are designed to be more than just learning experiences; they are opportunities for personal growth and self-expression.
One of Krista’s signature offerings is her Music & Movement class. Here, participants learn fundamental music skills such as maintaining a steady beat, playing songs unaccompanied, and engaging with pre-recorded tracks through karaoke sessions. Everyone has the chance to play instruments and sing, creating a lively and supportive atmosphere. This class is a testament to the belief that music is a universal language, accessible to all.
Krista’s theater classes are equally dynamic. Students are immersed in the world of theater, where they prepare to put on full performances, telling stories and dancing to musical numbers. “The students have been loving it,” Krista notes, emphasizing the excitement and energy that fills each session. With a new theater production in the works, participants are eager to showcase their talents and share their passion with the community.
“I love working with this group. They’re so excited to be here, be silly, and have fun. I don’t have to do a lot of coaxing. We just love to have fun and we’re all about expressing ourselves.”

Krista incorporates theater games to build confidence and encourage self-expression. “Music and the arts are such universal things that someone can connect to in some way,” she explains. “People with different abilities can find ways to connect to the music and express themselves through the music and the games that we play. It’s beautiful to see everyone tied together through music, theater, and games.”
The Hudson Valley InterArts Center prides itself on being an inclusive and welcoming community. Krista’s classes reflect this ethos, offering a range of options to suit different interests and ages:
- Music & Movement at the Farm: Tuesdays
- Standard Theater Class (Games & Activities): Wednesdays, morning and afternoon
- Music & Movement for Toddlers and Caregivers: Wednesday mornings at 9:30 AM
- Private Voice Lessons: Available in Krista’s studio space upstairs
Krista has exciting plans for the future. One of her goals is to collaborate with local schools, performing classic children’s stories adapted into engaging productions. This initiative aims to further integrate the community into the arts, offering young audiences the chance to experience the magic of live theater.
“It is an absolute joy to come here and make art every week,” Krista says with a smile. “I genuinely love it and look forward to it. It’s a pleasure.”
Join the Hudson Valley InterArts Center and Krista Libertino in celebrating the power of music and theater to bring people together, inspire creativity, and foster a sense of belonging for all!
