North Salem, NY – Community Based Services (CBS) is proud to announce the formation of the Community Based Services Foundation (CBSF), a dedicated philanthropic arm focused on enhancing the lives of individuals with autism and developmental disabilities. With an estimated 342,280 individuals in New York state living with autism spectrum disorder, the need for lifelong services and support continues to grow.
According to Vicki Sylvester, Ph.D., CEO of CBS, the foundation was established to create a stronger, more strategic approach to securing private funding. “Medicaid covers essential care, but philanthropic contributions will be key to driving innovation, ensuring that people with disabilities have the resources to pursue their passions, develop their talents, and reach their full potential,” said Dr. Sylvester.
For over 40 years, the agency has been a leader in supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, growing from serving 8 people in Westchester to over 500 across the Hudson Valley and Capital Region. With a strategic expansion plan for the next 3–5 years, part of it funded through philanthropy, the agency has already launched key initiatives, including Good Reasons dog treats, Cultivating Dreams farm, and the Hudson Valley InterArts Center.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the CBS Foundation provides tax-deductible giving opportunities, making it easier for individuals, businesses, and philanthropic partners to invest in a future where people with disabilities can thrive.
Mission & Impact
The CBS Foundation is dedicated to securing financial resources that expand and strengthen programs for individuals with autism and developmental disabilities. Funds raised will support:
✅ Innovative programs that promote independence and personal growth
✅ Job training and employment opportunities for individuals of all abilities
✅ Residential and community-based services that foster inclusion and self-sufficiency
✅ Access to the arts, recreation, and wellness initiatives
“We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to lead a fulfilling life,” said Dr. Sylvester. “Through the generosity of donors, we can expand opportunities, break down barriers, and create a future where people with disabilities are empowered to succeed.”
